Who is the Institute for Sound and Vision?

At its core, Sound and Vision is responsible for managing one of the largest digitized media archives in the world. This extensive collection includes radio, television, YouTube videos, objects, written press, podcasts, and games. The institute preserves this media for future generations while closely monitoring the evolving global media landscape. By shedding light on current affairs from a media-historical perspective, they ensure that knowledge of the past—particularly past media—is never lost.

The Project

The Beeld & Geluid (which translates to Sound & Vision) Institute manages a broad and continuously growing media collection, making it one of the largest audiovisual archives in Europe.

Previously, the institute had an exhibit focused on TV and radio. In its place, the new Media Museum has been created—an immersive space where visitors are seamlessly integrated into the media experience. To achieve this all-encompassing effect, lighting control was essential.

Advatek's Role

To power such a groundbreaking exhibit, the team at Beeld & Geluid brought in experts from ATA Tech, who needed the best pixel controllers on the market—leading them to Advatek.

By utilizing the advanced features available in Advatek Assistant 3, a free application provided by Advatek, the team was able to use a whole suite of monitoring and troubleshooting tools to see what the system was doing. Along with where packets are coming from and going to. Allowing for efficient system set up.

The ATA Team was also able to use Advatek Assistant 3 to remotely discover and monitor their PixLite® Mk3 devices.

The Result

With the expertise of ATA Tech and the power of Advatek's PixLite® products, the team created a stunning display that showcases the massive media archive of the Sound and Vision Institute. The full support offered by PixLite Mk3 products of the Art-Net and sACN Sync packets allowed for frame synchronization not only in a single controller, but across multiple, allowing ATA to avoid effects like tearing, keeping the entire installation frame-perfect.

Additionally, they developed an astounding pair of interactive game floors. In the "Play" zone, visitors can engage with a life-sized video game projected onto large digital floors—creating an exciting, interactive experience that will be enjoyed for years to come.

With our project, frames needed to be synchronized, so PixLite Mk3's compatibility with both Art-Sync and sACN Sync, coupled with its ability to monitor this, allowed us to create an incredible display.
